With no known end date in the fight against coronavirus, blood centers across the U.S., like OneBlood in our area, urgently need your help to donate blood. You can help save lives.

In recent weeks, hospital demand for blood products has grown by 30 percent after sharply declining in early April amid this rapidly changing and complex public health crisis.

Scheduled blood drives were forced to cancel as many businesses, community organizations and college campuses closed.

Our parent company Sinclair Broadcast Group has partnered with the American Red Cross and blood centers across the country like OneBlood in our area, for Sinclair Cares: Roll Up Your Sleeves. Together, we can help prevent another blood shortage as hospitals resume surgical procedures & patient treatments that were paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If you’re healthy and feeling well, please schedule your next blood donation in the days and weeks ahead.

The need for blood is constant, and donors are the only source of blood for those in need.

Each OneBlood donation center follows the highest standards of safety and infection control. To ensure the health of staff and donors, precautions include:

Checking temperatures of staff and donors to make sure they are healthy.
Providing hand sanitizer for use before the drive, as well as throughout the donation process.
Following social distancing between donors including entry, donation and refreshment areas.
Ensuring face masks or coverings are worn by both staff and donors.
Disinfecting all surfaces, equipment and donor-touched areas before and after each donor.
All staff wearing gloves and changing them often during procedures.
Using sterile collection sets and an aseptic scrub for every donation.

This is the time to take care of one another and blood donations is essential to ensuring the health of those in our community.
