WASHINGTON (SBG) – Drummer from the band Rush, Neil Peart, died at the age of 67.

The band released a statement on social media, confirming the death of their bandmate following a battle with brain cancer.

It is with broken hearts and the deepest sadness that we must share the terrible news that on Tuesday our friend, soul brother and band mate of over 45 years, Neil, has lost his incredibly brave three and a half year battle with brain cancer (Glioblastoma). We ask that friends, fans, and media alike understandably respect the family’s need for privacy and peace at this extremely painful and difficult time.

Peart was diagnosed with brain cancer three years ago but it was not made public to fans, according to TMZ.

According to The Associated Press, Elliot Mintz, Peart's representative said the musician died at his home in Santa Monica, California on Tuesday.

The drummer formally retired from Rush in 2015 just two years after the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Peart was with the band for 45 years.
